The challenge
An Australian based division of a large, multi-national company, this manufacturer of home comfort building materials was under significant pressure from headquarters to reduce costs throughout their operations.
The freight in scope was to the value of $8.5m.
Exploring possibilities to unlock opportunities
Prological reviewed operations and analysed data, landing on the potential of achieving their goal by designing an equipment solution that did not exist within the transport industry.
To unlock this opportunity, our process included:
- resenting the thesis to select transport providers through a collaborative tender process
- providing potential transport providers with the opportunity of securing a longer contract to support their significant commercial investment
This approach led to two transport providers working with trailer designers, prime mover providers and state and local governments to ultimately attain PBS approvals.
Designing an innovative new trailer configuration
The final solution centred around newly designed 153m3 single trailers. The solution included new engineered curtains and an integrated load restraint system that reduced load preparation and restraint time by over 30 minutes per load.
Freight savings of 29% and a 20% increase in market share in Year 1 were achieved with these changes.
This solution was a game-changer and opened the commercial and operational bottle necks within their business. The reduced cost per cubic metre, efficiency in loading and unloading processes, and flexibility which this solution delivered transformed our client’s business.
